Reading Support

At the beginning of the year, each child is assessed to determine their academic level. If your child’s scores indicate a deficiency in reading, then your child will qualify for extra reading support. If your child receives reading support, he or she will learn strategies to improve their decoding, comprehension and fluency skills. They will be in a small group setting of six students, with one of the reading specialists helping him or her develop the necessary skills to build a strong reader.

The overall goal for the department is to build strong readers, especially those that lack the necessary skills to be a confident, skilled reader. Our hope is that the students that receive extra reading support will learn skills and strategies and apply them on a daily basis when they are reading independently.
