CRYSTAL WATERMAN

Dr. Crystal Waterman began her tenure as the principal of the Edward Williams Elementary School in 2016. Over the several years, Dr. Waterman has led the charge of transforming one of the lowest performing schools in Westchester County, leading the school from priority status to becoming a school in good standing within her first two years as principal. Under her leadership, Edward Williams School has been set on a path toward an upward trajectory of school improvement ultimately making a positive impact on the lives of thousands of children who live in the Mount Vernon community.

Prior to joining the Mount Vernon family, Dr. Waterman served as a middle school principal in another district and an assistant principal in New York City. Prior to becoming an administrator, Dr. Waterman spent the first two decades of her career as a teacher, reading specialist and an instructional coach.

A native of The Bronx, New York, Dr. Waterman graduated from The State University of New York at New Paltz with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. She holds three Master’s Degrees in Education from Long Island University, and has an earned Doctorate in Education from Fordham University. In addition, Dr. Waterman holds an Associate degree and a Bachelor degree in Theology from Empowering Leaders Institute and a Master Degree as well as a second earned Doctorate in Theology from Mount Olive Bible Institute and Seminary.

Outside of her profession, Dr. Waterman is a licensed and ordained minister and plays an integral role in leading the music ministry at her church where she is an active member for almost 30 years.

Dr. Waterman is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho, Sorority Incorporated, which was founded in 1922, and is one of the four Historically Black Greek Letter Sororities in the National Pan Hellenic Council. Alongside her sorority sisters in the Theta Sigma Sigma, Mid-Hudson Alumnae chapter, Dr. Waterman engages in projects that service the Lower Westchester and Mid-Hudson Valley communities. She also mentors young ladies into developing to their full potential.

Alongside her family, Dr. Waterman has devoted her life’s work and mission to educating children and glorifying God. Dr. Waterman lives her life with the full confidence of the Biblical scripture in the book of Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me".

It is Dr. Waterman’s goal for the students at Edward Williams School to reach a minimum of 90% proficiency.
