The Mount Vernon City School District is welcoming LaJuan White as assistant superintendent for pupil personnel services. Ms. White was approved by the Board of Education during a work session on Tuesday, and she will begin in her role on August 1.

Mount Vernon, NY- The Mount Vernon City School District is implementing a personal device policy in accordance with New York State Law, "restricting the use of personal internet-enabled devices throughout the school day". The District is holding a public hearing to gather community feedback regarding the policy, which will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in the Board Room at the Education Center,165 N. Mount Vernon, NY- The Mount Vernon City School District was appointed an academic monitor by the State Education Department and will hold a public hearing regarding the academic monitor’s duties and laws related to the duties. The hearing will take place from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in the Board Room at the Education Center, 165 N. Columbus Avenue, Mount Vernon, New York, 10553.
The Mount Vernon Board of Education held its first work session of the 2025-2026 school year on Tuesday. Work sessions were introduced by Superintendent Dr. Demario Strickland to center Board meeting discussions on student achievement and important policy work rather than administrative tasks.

Dozens of students have decided to dedicate a large chunk of their summer vacation time by taking part in the Smart Scholars Program at Mount Vernon High School to either prepare for their freshman year or help them improve their academic standing as they plan for college.
